Islands

• 4,617 in all when you count ledges exposed at high tide, according to Maine's Coastal Islands Registry
• 1,300 are owned by the State of Maine, many are ledges
• 1,149 are estimated to be more than 10 acres in area
• 8 are towns unto themselves: the Cranberries, Frenchboro, Isle au Haut, Islesboro, Long Island, North Haven, Swans Island, and Vinalhaven.
