    was born in Brunswick on September 18, 1805. Having graduated Bowdoin College in 1825, with Longfellow and Hawthorne, he was a historian and author of fifty-four books, including a biography of Napoleon.

    Abbott died on June 17, 1877 in Fair Haven, Connecticut.
